Billing Update: MVC's
There are two very important changes to information and patient signatures required on motor vehicle accidents. These will be REQUIRED on every MVA patient, with exception to “Patient Refused All”.
1.) In order to obtain the proper insurance carrier for motor vehicle accidents, documenting the license plate of the vehicle the patient was in at the time of the accident is now required.
2.) Motor vehicle insurance requirements necessitate patient sign a NF-3 for insurance. These have been placed in the clipboard (canary colored form) and uploaded to the forms folder on the laptops. This signature with be IN ADDITION to the normal HIPAA/Billing Authorization, and is not optional. The entire form needs to be completed and scanned to the chart. A new attachment category has been added to emsCharts, called “MVA NF-3 AOB”. Forms should be labeled as such. If a patient is not eligible to sign section 1 of the HIPAA Auth due to physical or mental limitations, it is not required to obtain the NF-3 either. As with any document, parents or guardians of minors should sign the form on the patients behalf. If you have any questions please see a billing department person.
