Decadron & D10
Within the next few days, we will be switching from SoluMedol to Decadron and from D50 to D10.
Attached are some slides that will clarify their usages and indications. Please review them ASAP.
Decadron: Given as 1 dose of 10mg/1mL IV/IM/IO for asthma, allergic reaction, and COPD
exacerbation. Replaces SoluMedrol in the current MLREMS protocol due to the inability to procure
SoluMedrol; there is a nationwide shortage.
D10: We do not have the premixed D10 bags in stock yet, so we will be mixing our own D10. Once we
go ahead with D10, it will no longer be permission to push D50 straight outside of a cardiac arrest
situation. A few pearls on mixing D10:
Put an 18G needle onto the D50 syringe
Carefully insert the needle into the medication port of the 250cc NS bag as to not puncture yourself or
the bag.
Push the D50 slowly into the bad; it will all fit into the bag
Spike the bag with a macro drip and run wide open until pt. wakes up and achieves the desired result.
