Emergency Responses to NYS T-Way and Interstates

When responding to and from NYS T-Way for a call (MVA, Medical, etc.), please go through a lane
with a teller vs the EZ Pass. The teller can allow access to the T-Way, whereas the EZ Pass lane will
see it as a violation since we don’t have EZ Pass. Why not get EZ pass for all our ambulances? If you
enter and exit from the same exit number, it is flagged and again you get a violation.
When responding on any interstate (T-Way, 390, 490) you can and should respond with lights and
siren if the call type warrants it. You do not need to run green on the interstate. The FD responds
green because the fire apparatus speed is governed (restricted) and often can’t keep up with traffic.
Running red in fire apparatus has no benefit. If you come upon fire apparatus that is running green
and you are running red, you can safely pass them on the interstate. As always respond safely.
