RSI Medication Changes

We are no longer stocking Succinylcholine as of August 1st. Some kits already have had it removed
due to expiration or warm stock replacement, and we are not restocking the medication. RSI Techs
have already been advised, and the wall charts will be reposted shortly. Meanwhile PLEASE be
diligent about dating RSI Kits when they are moved. We have two kinds: warm and cold. Kits may be
moved from one environment to another due to vehicle maintenance or restock. Please make sure
when a kit is moved to a WARM environment, an orange circle sticker is prominently displayed on the
front and the blue seal shows the date 60 days from the day it was taken OUT of the refrigerator. Warm drugs
that are usually refrigerated (Rocuronium, Diltiazem) can only be used for 60 days after reaching room
temperature. If you put a warm kit into a fridge for storage, it does NOT change the “warm” date. Always go by
the soonest date listed on the kit. If you are restocking an RSI Kit, please make sure to note not only the warm
drug expiration (Rocuronium) but the actual manufacturer’s expiration of all of the drugs in the kit (Roc and
Etomidate). If the Etomidate expires before the warm Roc, note that on the blue seal.
