RSI Kits & Expiration Dates
Rocuronium is the only drug in the RSI Kit that actually needs to be refrigerated. It can be used up to sixty (60) days after reaching room temperature. We are facing issues when kits are taken out of vehicles, as sometimes the warm kits are being put in a refrigerator, sometimes cold kits are not being marked "WARM" when placed in vehicles without fridges. Please make every effort to put an orange circle sticker on warm kits with WARM printed on it and the date sixty days from the day it was taken out. The sticker should go on the front of the kit. On the blue seal, the date of the first expiring medication inside the kit should be written. This way both the warm Roc date and the first expiring date should be displayed. Etomidate does NOT have to be replaced when the warm kit reaches its end date, unless it expires. Please keep warm kits OUT of the refrigerator, segregated in some way either with the gear set itself, or near the fridge so that it is clearly WARM.
