Emergency Responses to NYS T-Way and Interstates
When responding to and from NYS T-Way for a call (MVA, Medical, etc.), please go through a lane with a teller vs the EZ Pass. The teller can allow access to the T-Way, whereas the EZ Pass lane will see it as a violation since we don’t have EZ Pass. Why not get EZ pass for all our ambulances? If you enter and exit from the same exit number, it is flagged and again you get a violation. When responding on any interstate (T-Way, 390, 490) you can and should respond with lights and siren if the... read more
ET Blade & King Airway Update
The manufacturer of the EquipLite laryngoscope blades is no longer making them. Rusch/Teleflex has notified BoundTree that they will no longer ship these LED disposable blades. Fortunately, Curaplex, the BoundTree house brand, now makes an LED disposable blade that is fully compatible with our equipment. They have the benefit of being more rugged and less expensive. CPAS
We have suspicion that the Phillips monitors maybe showing a different rhythm on the screen as is showing in the HIC file. As a result, we are asking your help in troubleshooting. We are implementing the steps of charge, print, analyze, shock (CPAS) for our cardiac arrests. You should be reviewing the printout to make a decision on the rhythm. Upon completion of the call, please put the printouts in my mailbox. –F. Manzo

New CPAP Device
A new CPAP device will begin appearing on the ambulances this month. It will be trickling out as the old FlowSafe II devices are used, due to the cost of replacing them. So there will be instances where you may find the current device (FlowSafe II) which requires liter-flow moderated PEEP, and the new devices, which have a steady oxygen flow (10 pm) and manual PEEP setting. A sample of the new device will be in the Comm Center at Henrietta and in the common area at Chili. Please see the... read more
