A general reminder that punching in early is permissible up to 30 minutes prior to the start time of your shift. The only reasons that are acceptable for punching in earlier than that are at the request of an operations officer (please note which one made the request), an early call (please note early call), or if all crews are out on calls (please note such in the comments section). Chute Time

Just a reminder that our chute time needs to be 60 seconds or less for all pri 1 and 2 calls. Chute times for pri 3s and 4s should be 2 minutes or less. In short we need to move with a purpose to the vehicles for all calls.

Controlled Substances -- Overage and Documentation

Two items for providers this week: vials that have more than expected amount of liquid in them, and documenting CS usage on Special Reports. 1. After a recent administration, it was observed that the vial contained more liquid than would be expected. The discussion that followed centered around the "manufacturer's overage," and the fact that the vials contain a minimum amount as labeled, but not a maximum amount. Warmed Saline -- Extended Expiration Date

After consultation with the pharmacy doctors, Dr. Cushman, and published research, we have learned that warmed saline can be kept on the warmer for 6 months. So, effective immediately when using warmed saline, the new bag placed on the warmer should have a new expiration date of 6 months from the current date.

Cricothyrotomy Kits

We will no longer be stocking premade “kits” in our airway bags for performing cricothyrotomies. Instead, we will just have a #10 scalpel. This change will be made effective 6/1/17 at the request of Dr. Cushman.

Weekly Monitor Operations Test

Beginning 6/1/17, we will be testing our monitors on a weekly basis every THURSDAY. This is manufacturer recommended testing/preventative maintenance. Please be diligent in completing the log for these weekly checks. Both stations have a new clipboard and paperwork reflecting all our monitors. Additionally, both chore books will be updated shortly.

Equipment Standardization Update

All of the ambulances except for 6119 and 6129 have been standardized along with this the ambulance check sheets have been updated to reflect the changes that have been made. Please review these documents to become familiar with the location of equipment, as some items may have moved. In each ambulance, you will find a list of equipment attached to the cabinets that reflect the content of each cabinet. Chili ALS --- BLS Storage Combined

ALS and BLS supplies have been consolidated at Chili into a single room off the garage (old Chiefs’ office). There is a counter for workspace, and refrigerated meds will be placed in the refrigerator. If you have suggestions for organizing more effectively, please let Capt. Philippy or Capt. Curran know. Rehab bags

There is now an additional rehab bag in Chili (“Rehab bag #2”) that is a navy blue duffle bag similar in size and shape to the one in Henrietta (“Rehab bag #1”). This bag contains all the same equipment as the bag in Henrietta, except the bag in Henrietta has two RAD 57 units. Both bags contain a Cyanokit as well as updated protocol information for smoke inhalation and CO2 exposure.
